 ZyprexaSince its approval by the Federal Food and Drug Administration in 1996, there have been almost 300 cases of diabetes in patients taking Zyprexa and 23 deaths. Zyprexa, manufactured by Eli Lilly, is one of their top-selling drugs and its sale accounts for about 40 percent of its $11 billion annual earnings. Zyprexa has been prescribed to over 6 million people world wide. In other countries, the Zyprexa concerns have been so great that Japan and the European Union required that diabetes warnings be added to the Zyprexa label. In the U.S., however, no such warning has been added to Zyprexa's label.
